Equipment with a free fall of more than 60 cm or with forced movement.
There must be soil structures with damping properties provided all over the impact area under all playground equipment with a free fall of more than 60 cm and/or equipment, which cause forced movement  to the users (e.g. swings, slides, bouncers, cable cars, carousels, etc.).
Equipment with a free fall of not more than 60 cm and without forced movement.
It is not required to exam the critical falling height of the soil under these playground equipments. Except hard ground all soil structures with damping properties are allowed, for example lawn.

FALL AREA AS DEFINED BY EN 1177

Fall area regulations are designed to ensure that play areas are safe and hazard-free. Besides various soil structures with damping properties we particularly recommend our HIC-approved rubber safety tiles. This surfacing has the particular advantage that it provides largely dry, maintenance-free and cost-effective play areas. Although the rubber tiles are machine-made, certain dimensional and colour tolerances are possible. The following pages will help you to choose the right tiles for each fall area.

  TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Fall area with rubber safety tiles

Although the rubber safety tiles are machine-made, certain dimensional and colour tolerances are possible. Rubber safety tiles are normally delivered from stock with an exception of EPDM solid-rubber tiles ROYAL. These are produced only on order because of their complex colour spectrum. (Minimum order 40 m2, delivery time approximately 4 weeks).
Rubber safety tiles will be preferably laid on grit or sand. Bonding is possible on bound surfaces like concrete.

Fall area with natural soil types

Bark mulch, grain size 20–80 mm
Wood chips, grain size 5–30 mm
Sand (1) grit size of 0.2–2 mm
Round gravel (1) grit size 2–8 mm
(1) without silt or clay contents. The size of grit
can be found out by a sieve test.

RUBBER SAFETY TILES

Solid-rubber compound tiles type FS with dyed rubber granulate top layer

This surfacing consists of two different layers. The secondary layer consists of a mixture of recyclable fibres and granulates. The reinforced top layer is covered with a coloured binder.

Rubber concrete slabs type FS with dyed rubber granulate top layer
This surfacing consists of two different layers. The secondary layer consists of a 4 cm thick concrete tile. The reinforced top layer is covered with a coloured binder.

Solid-rubber tiles type FS with dyed rubber granulate top layer

This surfacing consists of two different layers. The secondary layer consists of a mixture of recyclable fibres and granulates. The reinforced top layer is covered with a coloured binder.

Safety tiles GRANUGRASS ® with synthetic turf top layer
These safety tiles consist of two different layers. The secondary layer consists of a mixture of recyclable fibres and granulates. This base layer is fully bonded with a high quality artificial turf granulate layer. GRANUGRASS ® offers a nature-like surfacing with green, non-abrasive artificial grass.

Safety tiles ROYAL with EPDM natural rubber top layer
The basic structure and the drainage of the EPDM rubber tiles also consist of a secondary layer as by the type FS. This base layer is made of coloured granulate (natural rubber) with transparent binder. This granulate is through-out solid coloured and retains its natural colour fastness. The quality of fall protection is comparable with a Tartan surface or with a moulded fall protection coating. The various mixes of granulate allow a broad colour spectrum. (Minimum order 40 m2 / delivery time approximately 4 weeks)

Place moulding fall protection with natural EPDM rubber top layer
On request we offer place moulding fall protection in EPDM quality. Please, ask for an individual offer.
